The lotus root that I first encountered was in a shape of the sliced piece. It took a long term to see the original form of lotus roots before it was cut. I tried to make the process of getting acquainted with lotus root by substituting it into the production method. Purchase a whole lotus root, discover sliced pieces then stack up to them into a complete shape. Scanning the sliced lotus root back and forth to collect the plane data, then projecting the shape onto a plate (pink styrofoam) and cutting out the outline and holes. Each piece of lotus root shares the connected shape of the side, and the successive chain of the identical form creates a structure that erects the entire lotus root. The shared side does not exist before cutting it but becomes two parts after slicing, so it can be the one in concept but cannot exist like the one in reality.
